restaurants
breakfast
- mighty-o donuts: for a complete meal. :)
- irwin's bakery and cafe: good coffee, great scones!
- 5 spot: quick, order the coffee cake before they run out yet!
- emmer & rye: delicious and affordable local food. we've only tried brunch but the rest of their menu looks awesome too.
lunch/dinner
- chiang's gourmet: amazing chinese food. order the sweet and sour pork (chinese style), and homemade shangai noodles. you won't regret it.
- mr. gyros: tiny place, best to take-out.
- red mill burgers: almost always a line, but well worth the wait. while in line, keep an eye out for their mountain of bacon.
- paseo: expect to wait in line, pay with cash, have no place to sit, and to eat the best sandwich of your entire life. (order #2, pulled pork cuban sandwich. trust.)
- latona pub: local brews and the best pub food you'll ever have.
- phinney market pub and eatery: super amazing fries. other delicious things as well, but order something with fries, or add them on the side.
coffee
- fresh flours, phinney ridge
- herkimer coffee, greenwood
- cake envy, green lake (they also have cake, but their cafe umbria joe is to die for)
dessert
places to see
- kerry park: hands down, best view of the city
- green lake park: go for a three mile walk around scenic green lake (we live here)
- pike place market: worth the hype, even to just peruse
- central library: crazy/cool architecture
For a similar list, broken down by neighborhood, I highly recommend taking a peek at Elephantine's "A Guide to Seattle".
